The moon bath, also known as golden bath, is an aesthetic procedure performed in the summer with the aim of lightening the hair, making it less visible to the naked eye. In addition, this procedure is able to hydrate and nourish the skin, in addition to removing the dead cells present in the skin, improving the appearance of the skin, leaving it softer and enhancing the tanned skin of the summer.
The moon bath can be performed either at home or in a beauty salon or beauty center, as it is a simple and quick procedure. However, it is recommended that the golden bath is done by people trained and qualified to perform the procedure, as it is important that the mixture is appropriate to the person's skin type, avoiding allergic reactions.
How is done
The moon bath is a simple procedure that lasts between 30 minutes and 1 hour and can be applied to any part of the body, except the face, with the arms, legs, back and belly being the places where this aesthetic procedure is performed with more often. The effect of the moon bath lasts an average of 1 month, which is the average time for hair to grow and become visible.
It is recommended that the moon bath is performed in a beauty salon or beauty center by a trained professional, because in addition to reducing the chances of a reaction, it is possible to reach regions that cannot be achieved alone. The moon bath step by step is:
- Bleaching: In this step, the bleaching of the hair is done, and most of the time a mixture containing hydrogen peroxide in adequate amounts for the person's skin type is used. Most of the time, to avoid damage to the skin, a thin layer of cream can be applied before applying the bleaching product. The product is applied and spread on the area to be cleared, and should remain for about 5 to 20 minutes according to the person's desire;
- Removal of the bleaching product: With the help of a spatula, excess product is removed;
- Exfoliation: After discoloration of the hair and removal of excess product, an exfoliation is performed in order to remove dead cells present on the skin;
- Nutrition and hydration: After exfoliation, the entire product is removed and then a moisturizing cream is applied to recover the skin from the procedure and leave it softer and hydrated.
It is important that before performing the moon bath, the product is tested on a small region of the skin, especially if the person has never done this aesthetic procedure. This is because it allows you to check if the person has any allergies to the substance used or an unexpected reaction, and it is recommended to wash the area with plenty of water to remove the product.
Possible risks and contraindications
Due to the fact that the moon bath is done mainly with hydrogen peroxide, it is important to take some precautions before performing the procedure, especially if it is done at home. It is important to keep in mind that hydronium peroxide is a toxic substance and can cause damage to the skin, such as burns, for example, especially if used in concentrations higher than recommended for the skin type.
In addition, it is recommended that hydrogen peroxide is not applied directly to the skin, but that it is mixed with a suitable cream so that it has the desired effect and has less risk for the person. There is also a risk of hypersensitivity reactions due to the product, which can be noticed through burning or local itching, and it is recommended to remove the product immediately if it is noticed.
As the moon bath involves the use of a potentially toxic substance, this aesthetic procedure is not recommended for pregnant women, people who have skin lesions and who are allergic to any of the product's components.
