Glucantime is an injectable antiparasitic medication that contains meglumine antimoniate in its composition, indicated for the treatment of American cutaneous or cutaneous mucosal Leishmaniasis and treatment of visceral leishmaniasis or kala azar.
This medicine is available in SUS in solution for injection, which must be administered at the hospital by a health professional.
How to use
This medicine is available in solution for injection and, therefore, should always be administered by a health professional, and the dose of treatment should be calculated by a doctor according to the person's weight and the type of Leishmaniasis.
Generally, treatment with Glucantime is done for 20 consecutive days in case of visceral Leishmaniasis and for 30 consecutive days in cases of cutaneous Leishmaniasis.

Possible side effects
Some of the most common side effects that can occur during treatment include joint pain, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, fever, headache, decreased appetite, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, pain in the belly and changes in the examination of blood, especially in liver function tests.
Who should not use
Glucantime should not be used in cases of allergy to meglumine antimoniate or in patients with renal, heart or liver failure. In addition, pregnant women should only be used after the doctor's recommendation.
