Sepurin is an antibiotic containing methenamine and methylthionium chloride, substances that eliminate bacteria in cases of urinary tract infection, relieving symptoms such as burning and pain when urinating, in addition to preventing the infection from getting worse in the kidneys or bladder. This medicine has a price of about 18 to 20 reais and can be purchased at the pharmacy with a prescription.
As methylationinium chloride is a dye, it is normal that during the use of this remedy the urine and faeces become bluish or greenish in color, being just a side effect.
In addition to being used to treat urinary tract infections, Sepurin can also be recommended in people who use a bladder catheter to prevent the appearance of a bladder infection, or to prevent bladder infection in people with frequent urinary tract infections. See some precautions with the probe that also help to prevent infections.
How to take
This medication should be taken in the dose of 2 pills 3 to 4 times a day, until consultation with the doctor and indication of another antibiotic or change in the dose of Sepurin, for example.
After ingestion, it is advisable to drink little water and keep urine for as long as possible in the bladder, at least during the two palm hours. In the case of people with a probe, the probe should be kept closed for 4 hours after using the medication.
Possible side effects
The use of Sepurin can cause some side effects such as skin reactions, abdominal pain, increased burning sensation when urinating, blue-colored urine and feces, nausea and vomiting.
Who should not take
Sepurin is contraindicated for pregnant women, breast-feeding women or people with liver disease, methemoglobinemia, kidney disorders or diabetes. In addition, it should also not be used when you need a urine test or when you are allergic to any of the components of the formula.
As it can affect the effect of various medications, it is important to inform the doctor if you are being treated with other medications besides Sepurin.
