Tetracycline is an antibiotic used to fight infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to this substance, and can be purchased in the form of pills.
This medicine should only be used if recommended by the doctor and can be purchased in conventional pharmacies, upon presentation of a prescription.
What is it for
Tetracycline tablets are indicated for the treatment of:
- Acne vulgaris;
- Actinomycoses;
- Anthrax;
- Genitourinary infection;
- Gingivostomatitis;
- Inguinal granuloma;
- Venereal lymphogranuloma;
- Otitis media, pharyngitis, pneumonia and sinusitis;
- Typhus;
- Syphilis;
- Rectal infection;
- Amoebiasis, in combination with metronidazole
- Enterocolitis.
Although tetracycline can be used in the situations mentioned, there are other drugs that can also be indicated. Thus, this remedy should only be used if recommended by the doctor.
How to use
The dosage of the drug depends on the condition being treated.
Generally, the method of use of tetracycline consists of taking one 500 mg tablet every 6 hours or every 12 hours, according to the doctor's recommendation.Milk and dairy products, such as cheese or yogurt, should be avoided 1 or 2 hours before and after taking the medication.
Possible side effects
Some of the most common side effects that may occur during treatment with tetracycline are gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, oral candidiasis, vulvovaginitis, anal itching, darkening or discoloration of the tongue, pseudomembranous colitis, skin photosensitivity, skin pigmentation and mucosa and discoloration and hypoplasia of enamel in forming teeth.
Who should not use
Tetracycline is contraindicated in pregnancy, lactation and for patients hypersensitive to tetracyclines or formula components.
