To find out the shape of the face, you must pin the hair and take a picture of the face only. Then, looking at the photo, one should imagine or draw a vertical line that divides the face, which will be the face length line, and another horizontal line that divides the face in half, which will be the face width line. With these lines, all you have to do is compare the measurements and interpret the result.
Another way to analyze the face is to hold the hair and stand in front of a fixed mirror, in a well-lit place. After that, using a lipstick, makeup pencil, chalk or even a whiteboard pen, you can draw the entire contour of the face in the mirror, without including the ears, keeping as still as possible and without tilting your head towards the front.
Face Types
Round, square, oval, heart, oblong or diamond, are the main types of face that exist to characterize the different shapes, and each of them has its own specific shape and characteristics:
1. Round Face
The lines of the length and width of the face have the same dimensions, that is, the same length. In addition, this type of face does not have straight lines, and its angles are not very defined and very rounded.
Often, this type of face is confused with the oval type, but on the round face, the forehead is smaller and the distance between the lower part of the nose and the chin is less than the length of the entire nose.
When it is necessary to choose sunglasses or prescription glasses, for this type of face one should avoid glasses with rounded lines that accentuate even more the round lines. The ideal is to opt for glasses with straight lines, with rectangular and square models being the most suitable.
A medium to long haircut that covers your cheekbones slightly should be preferred. If the person likes to wear bangs, he should avoid straight cuts and prefer diagonal cuts.
2. Square Face
In the type of square face, the lines of the length and width of the face also have the same dimensions, as it happens in the round face, with the great difference that the lines of the face are straight and intense. This type of face has straight forehead, lateral, chin and jaw lines, mostly at right angles.
Often the square face can be easily identified by analyzing the part of the face that is below the face width line, which is drawn horizontally.
To choose sunglasses or prescription glasses, it is recommended to choose aviator or kitten glasses, as they are formats that soften the straight lines characteristic of this type of face.
More asymmetrical and bulky haircuts should be preferred.Short hair also favors this face shape.
3. Oval face
In the oval face, what happens is that the line of length is approximately ⅓ greater than the line of width, which is a type of face slightly elongated when compared to the previous ones. This type of face is smooth and delicate and has no prominent angle.
In these types of faces, both round and straight glasses models look good. The most important rule is to get the glasses right, which should be neither too big nor too small.
It is possible to choose more asymmetrical and moving cuts. The straight fringe also favors this type of face, because it gives the illusion of less length of the face.
4. Face Heart
In the heart face, the line of length is greater than the line of width, the chin being pointed and the smallest point of this type of face. In this type of face, the region of the forehead and cheekbones is wide, with a similar width, and the lines of the jaw are long and straight, tapering until reaching the chin.
Often, this type of face is associated with an inverted triangle, where the chin is the tip of the triangle.
When it is necessary to choose prescription glasses or sunglasses, for this type of face round or rounded glasses are recommended, being the aviator model the safest.
This face shape is valued with medium and volume haircuts. The fringe also favors the face because it makes the forehead less long.
5. Oblong face
In the type of oblong face, also known as rectangular, the length line is almost twice the width line, and the entire face resembles a vertical rectangle. In this type of face, the lateral lines are straight and well defined, as well as the lines of the jaw, as in the square face.
The big difference in this type of face is that the jaw has a slight curvature, which makes it less pronounced and less square. Another important feature is that the forehead tends to be the same width as the jaw, which gives this type of face a rectangular appearance.
As with the square face, one should opt for glasses in the shape of aviator or kitten, as they are formats that help to smooth the natural straight lines characteristic of this type of face.
As with the square face, the haircut must be asymmetrical and have movement. The bangs can help to reduce the size of the forehead.
6. Diamond face
In the diamond-shaped face, the length line is greater than the width line, and as in the heart-shaped face, the chin is highlighted, with a pointed aspect.
The big difference in this type of face is that the widest region is the cheekbones, the forehead and hairline being narrower (contrary to what happens in the heart-shaped face) together with a sharp and pointed chin. In addition, the jaw lines are long and straight, tapering slightly until it reaches the chin.
To choose glasses that match this type of face, it is recommended to choose round glasses, with rounded sides or with the oval bottom.
The recommended cut for this face shape is the peak, which gives volume and helps to disguise the protrusions of the face. In addition, the straight cut fringe also favors these types of faces.
