Papaya is a tasty and healthy fruit, rich in fiber and nutrients such as vitamin C and lycopene. It is smaller in size than papaya formosa, but both have very similar composition and nutrients.
The main benefits obtained from regular consumption of papaya are:
- Improve intestinal transit, as it is rich in fiber and water;
- Improve skin and vision, as it is rich in vitamin A;
- Strengthen the immune system by having good amounts of vitamin C;
- Assist the functioning of the nervous system, by having B vitamins;
- Help to lose weight, by having few calories and low glycemic index;
- Facilitate digestion by containing papain, an enzyme that helps digest proteins;
- Prevent diseases such as cancer, heart problems and Alzheimer's, as it is rich in antioxidants.
The main difference between the two to be considered at the time of purchase should be just the size, as the papaya formosa is bigger and can end up spoiling in the refrigerator, if it is not consumed within about 3 days after opening. However, a good solution is to freeze the papaya in small portions that can then be used in juices and vitamins.
